I Absolutely Love Making Games . . . Sort of
Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 9:43PM This post turned out way longer than I thought I would, so I have separated it into 2 versions.
SHORT VERSION: 2-4BOT is looking for a partner; a programmer, to be more specific. I want to work with someone to build the company, and make games together.
- If you know how to program, and want to partner up with someone with a whole mess of ideas and design docs started for a variety of games and apps, contact me.
- If you can program for the iPhone, iPad, Android, Blackberry, Palm, or even Flash, contact me.
- If you want to pad your resume by doing some programming for this start-up company, and/or just want to make some money on the side, contact me.
- If you have the programming skill and are interested, but don’t think you can afford to become a financial partner, contact me.
- If you have your own ideas, but want someone to talk to about them, and want a fresh opinion on them, contact me.
- If you're just bored, and are looking for something to program, anything to program, contact me.
Just contact me.

And now for the . . .
LONG VERSION:
It's been . . . a while.
I haven't updated this site in a lifetime. More than a lifetime. 10 billion lifetimes.
But I'm back. Hello.
Things at 2-4BOT Entertainment LLC have changed in the past 10 billion lifetimes. We've still only released 2 games on the iPhone (that hasn't changed, sadly), but the company itself has undergone drastic change.
My younger brother, partner, and co-founder, Christopher has moved on to pursue other opportunities in the lands known as "California", and we (me) at 2-4BOT wish him all the best of luck, and remind him that he should totally buy his older brother a vacation house when he makes it big. Or, at least let his older brother live in one of his many vacation homes rent-free when he makes it big. Working with Christopher has been excellent, and the company is truly sadder for him not being here. Thanks, Chris, for all of your hard work. The mascot would cry, but he'd rust, or short-circuit, and he just doesn't need that right now.
I have been thinking long and hard about the company, where it could go, where it should go, and what I should be doing with the ideas and design documents I've been working on while I haven't been writing things on this site.
The company looks more and more to me like a game design company. Mapping the games out, getting the ideas and the rules down, and making it fun; that is what I do best. I can't program to save my life. Luckily, I have never been in a situation where I've had to save my own life by programming something.
Yet.
But, as Robert Ashley points out (www.alifewellwasted.com), everyone has great ideas.* It's not the idea that makes someone successful. It's what they do with the idea. So, I've got the ideas. I've got some design docs, and even art started in some cases. I've got the beginnings of many different games and apps that, if released, would be quite enjoyable, and, in some cases, even educational or useful.
And cue the sound of crickets chirping, one lone clap from the back of the room, and a man coughing from stage left.
"Get off the stage!" someone yells.
"Take off your clothes!" adds another.
Ideas: I has them.
But to actually do something with them? That's why I need help. Designs, I can do. Direction or producing, I can do. Story, I can do. Testing, I can do. Sound, I can sort of do. Art, please don't ask me to do.
I absolutely love making games. I'm just not physically able to make games. So, to be more correct, I love designing games. Do you love programming games?
If so, I'm looking for you. In an ideal world, I would find a partner programmer; someone who wants to take a bunch of ideas, and make them into something on a regular basis. A partner doesn't necessarily have to mean a formal member of an LLC, with a stake in the company. A partner could mean someone who wants to be a regular freelance programmer, or someone who wants to contract to make a few games or apps, and then move on. A partner could potentially mean an employee, though I don't think I'm ready to take on that level of responsibility with my company quite yet.
So those are my thoughts, and that is my plea. I have ideas that could work on a variety of platforms, so if you don't know C++, but know Flash, that's fine. Only know Java? Great. Let's do it. I'm not picky.

*[[SIDE NOTE: For a very excellent podcast about ideas, please go download the latest "A Life Well Wasted" podcast by Robert Ashley (http://alifewellwasted.com/podcast/). His is consistently the most well-produced podcast I listen to on any subject, and I am a huge fan of his work. The episode in its entirety isn't my favorite of his, but the first few minutes are absolutely true, and anyone with an idea for anything should listen to it. Go go go. Get a-downloading. ]]
